Power Plant Operator (1st or 2nd Class Power Engineer) (TransAlta)

TransAlta is hiring: Power Plant Operator (1st or 2nd Class Power Engineer), Keephills, AB.

• Operates and monitors boilers, turbines, generators, water treatment and auxiliary systems, and gives direction to the operating crew on shift in normal, abnormal and emergency conditions
• Supports start-ups, shutdowns, outages and return-to-service; works permits, isolations, lockout/tagout and hazard assessments; keeps operating logs and shift turnover notes
• Troubleshoots operating issues, coordinates daily work with maintenance, engineering and contractors, and mentors newer operators
• Asks for a valid Alberta 1st or 2nd Class Power Engineering certificate and about 8 to 10 years in power generation or large industrial plant operations, including control room and DCS work; coal, gas, combined-cycle, outage planning or shift leadership experience is an asset
• Full-time hourly job at the Keephills Thermal Plant; union position under the IBEW Local 254 collective agreement; safety-sensitive, so pre-employment testing applies; no pay figure stated
